What are Dermal Fillers?
As we age, our skin’s natural collagen stores begin to diminish, leading to pesky lines, wrinkles, and loss of facial fullness. Dermal fillers, also called soft tissue fillers, help to smooth and soften the appearance of facial lines, as well as restore volume and fullness to the face for a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance. Some dermal fillers are even formulated to treat deeper wrinkles and lines for a more dramatic improvement.
Many dermal fillers are created with hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural substance in the body that attracts water and keeps skin hydrated and plump. However, some injectable fillers are formulated with things other than hyaluronic acid, such as poly-L-lactic acid or calcium hydroxylapatite.

What to Expect During Treatment
To begin treatment, Nurse Nataly will examine the areas of the face to be augmented. She may mark specific areas of your face as injection sites for the filler. The treatment area will then be cleansed, and a topical anesthetic may be offered to ensure your comfort. The dermal filler will then be injected using a small needle. Depending on the number of treatment areas, this process may take between 15 minutes and one hour.
Dermal Filler Aftercare
Dermal filler injections are an outpatient procedure. There is no downtime required following dermal filler injections, which means you can feel free to return to your daily activities. However, the area may be tender and swollen for a day or two, which can be reduced with the use of an ice pack wrapped in a towel or cloth (do not place ice directly on the treated area). We recommend that patients avoid intense exercise for the first 24-48 hours after treatment for the best results.
