What it is
RHA Redensity® is part of the RHA® Collection of resilient hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers by Teoxane/Revance Aesthetics, formulated specifically for dynamic facial areas — locations where the skin moves often (smiling, talking, chewing).
It is FDA-approved for injection into the dermis and superficial dermis for the correction of moderate to severe dynamic perioral rhytids (lines around the mouth) in adults 22 or older.
How it works
- The “resilient” HA technology is designed with fewer chemical modifications (lower cross-linking) so the gel better mimics the body’s own hyaluronic acid. This allows for greater stretch and better integration with facial movement.
- Because RHA Redensity® can be placed more superficially (in the dermis or superficial dermis), it is ideal for treating fine lines and wrinkles close to the skin surface (especially perioral).
- After injection, the HA gel fills the lines/folds and supports the surrounding tissue; over time HA gradually integrates and is naturally absorbed, while the improvements persist thanks to the product’s rheology and biocompatibility.
What it treats & benefits
- Primary indication: fine to moderate-severe “barcode” or perioral lines (vertical lines around the lips) also called perioral rhytids.
- Also used (off-label in many cases) in other dynamic zones: lower cheek lines, chin dimpling/lines, superficial wrinkles in movement-rich areas.
- Benefits:
- Natural look and feel in motion (because of the resilient HA gel) so the treated area moves with the face, not appears stiff.
- Suited for superficial placement—less risk of bulging or “overfill” when correctly placed.
- Results shown to last up to 12 months or more in clinical studies for perioral lines.
Treatment process & what to expect
- Consultation: Provider assesses dynamic lines around the mouth and other facial motion zones, reviews your goals, anatomy, and prior filler history.
- Injection session: Using fine-gauge needles (e.g., 30G) into the dermis/superficial dermis in target areas. Product often includes lidocaine for comfort.
- Number of syringes depends on severity, area treated, desired correction.
- Onset & durability: Some immediate improvement, full effect may settle within days; durability up to ~12 months in many cases for indicated area.
- Downtime: Minimal. Common side-effects: swelling, redness, bruising, tenderness. These usually resolve within days.
Candidate suitability & limitations
Good candidate if you:
- Have fine to moderate perioral lines (and/or dynamic lines in high-motion zones) and want a natural, subtle improvement.
- Prefer a filler that moves with your facial expressions rather than a stiffer filler.
- Have good skin condition and realistic expectations about the need for maintenance.
Considerations / may not be right if you:
- Have large volume deficits, deep static folds, significant skin laxity—those may require other fillers (thicker HA, biostimulators) or surgical options.
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding (safety not established).
- Have a history of severe allergic reactions or bleeding disorders (contraindications per product info).
Risks & safety
- Similar to other HA fillers: bruising, swelling, redness, lumps/bumps, discoloration, tenderness.
- Important safety note: filler injection into vasculature is a serious risk (vascular occlusion, skin necrosis, blindness) — must be administered by trained injector.
- The product is not permanent — results fade over time as the body gradually absorbs the filler. Touch-ups may be needed.
